It takes a trip to Chinatown or to the nearby suburbs to enjoy the best Chinese cooking in the area, but City Lights of China still holds fast to its title as DC's best neighborhood Chinese restaurant. With a menu divided between specialties from the regional cuisines of Szechuan and Canton, the kitchen is distinguished more by its consistency than by flashes of brilliance. The best news about this neatly kept modern Chinese cafe is that a group of friendly waitresses has replaced the curtly efficient servers of the past.

On a jutting blue canopy, just a few blocks from Dupont Circle, reads the bright white words City Lights of China. Descending downstairs, the restaurant seems at first glance to be a typical Chinese restaurant, cozily tucked in on Connecticut Avenue.

This is truly a great place! Once you step inside, you can tell good food is coming. The plates are very varied, and there is something for everyone. I reservations are not needed, and waits are usually short. The food comes fast, the the waiters and waitresses are polite and give good suggestions. The food comes fast, but doesn't feel rushed. The food has great flavor to it. My personal favorite dish is the Kung-Pow Chicken. Its all good! The inside looks great. Everything is nicely done.more
